There are alternatives to the constant drip, drip, drip of money being used to upgrade Microsoft products to "the next best thing" and to the constant fear of viruses, malware, spam and hackers attempting to steal your identity. There is no need to pay good money for bloated Office suites where you don't use anything like 20% of the functionality. Why pay for all that stuff you don't use, and probably wont ever use?
Do you worry that your computer is not your own, in that it is in hock to the latest and greatest anti-virus solution, or such like? Do you worry about licenses, whether you will be able to re-activate your expensive product if you upgrade your graphics card, for example? Forget all of this! Have real peace of mind and inner calmness knowing that no outside body will ever own your computer again, that there will be no "persecutions" for unlicensed software. And that you are no longer running pirated software, because you can't afford the full product or you dislike parting with your hard earned cash on something that the programmer cooked up in his bedroom over a couple of nights!
And the answer is? Linux and Open Source Software!!!! Contrary to what many people think and are told by vested interests, for the average user Linux and Open Source software is extremely easy to use, easy to install and above all, safe. On average it takes about 30 minutes to install an entire operating system, with all the applications you will need to immediately be up and running;- Web browser, Email, and a full Office suite that is equal to most tasks you can throw at it. What more could you want? What's that? You want ice cream with it all? Sorry, no can do! :)
